The omicron variant has wreaked havoc on employer’s plans to begin welcoming more employees back to the workplace. Companies should use this time to prepare for a surge in mental health challenges among workers, as millions are suffering higher rates of stress, anxiety and depression due to the unprecedented psychological upheaval of the pandemic.
Last summer, before the new variant stuck, a McKinsey survey found that 44% of people expect returning to the workplace would have a negative impact on their mental health. More than one-third of those who have already returned to in-person work reported it worsened their mental health.
